Ox was the first gnc (gender non-conforming) character I ever painted– it was only a few years ago, back in 2017. Maybe I’m confusing retrospect with reality, but it felt like painting Ox was like a first step toward acknowledging myself as a non-binary person. Music is a tool for me to examine personal anxieties and expectations within capitalism, while also unearthing a more accepting and honest internal view of myself as a queer, mixed-race person. Because of this, it feels like a natural step to create electronic music ranging from alt pop to dance under the moniker —–Ox.
